Patient Story: Healing Beyond Shoulder Pain – A Restorative Experience
August 19, 2025Being and Feeling Directly: A Lifelong Path of Making Contact with the Patient
My work with Biodynamic CranioSacral Therapy is a way of “seeing and feeling directly”. It is much like the way a painter approaches a canvas. Only the canvas I work with is your body. I meet your nervous system as it is, without forcing a technique, and simply experience your Life Force energy as it expresses itself.
This energy, the Breath of Life, is the animating force in every human being. It reveals itself as a subtle rhythmic expansion and contraction throughout the body. These biodynamic forces move in natural tides. Some are more surface oriented, others deeper and slower, such as what we call the mid Tide or the Long Tide. Each of these rhythms reflects the same organizing principle. The body is a coherent living matrix that is always communicating with itself.
This is not a standardized protocol. It is not a predictable chain of steps like a fast food franchise or a generic chiropractic adjustment. Instead, the work unfolds through direct experience. My hands sense the restrictions in your fascia and membranes that may be altering the flow of cerebrospinal fluid. These restrictions impact the movement of information and energy, as well as the ongoing communication between the brain and every cell in the body.
In this process I am not fixing your body. I am experiencing your whole system and the imprints of every trauma woven into your nervous system since birth. By being present and meeting your system directly, the therapeutic process begins on its own. Your body returns to homeostasis involuntarily. Healing and integration arise from within.
As Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais taught, “life is movement.” This may be visible in the large, obvious motions of the skeleton or in the subtle fluctuations of cerebrospinal fluid within the membranes of the spinal cord. “Life without movement is unthinkable.”
Human beings are unique in our ability to sense ourselves, correct ourselves and maintain our inherent health. Biodynamic CranioSacral Therapy invites a first person experience of oneself as a living body. It is a return to embodiment and to perceiving our sensations and feeling tones as they arise.
The Feldenkrais Method supports this same return. Through awareness of inner sensations as we move, we come back to a more integrated sense of ourselves.
